Susan Farrington is a mixed media artist and illustrator. She lives in beautiful New England and is looking forward to every-single-thing about autumn. One of her favorite activities is to hunt for materials to incorporate into her art. She collects Halloween memorabilia, postcards, ephemera, glass pitchers, globes, vintage shoe pin cushions, bird imagery, shell boxes, Victorian scrapbooks, old hats and anything else that strikes her fancy.
When I was little I loved Halloween. When I was 8 or 9, I saved cereal box tops to send away for an 8-foot-tall Frankenstein poster with glow-in-the-dark eyes. I decided that Frank needed some company on my bedroom walls, so I drew dozens of pictures of ghosts, haunted houses, graveyards, and jack-o-lanterns. I covered every inch of those walls with Halloween imagery.
The combination of falling leaves, crisp air and glowing pumpkins is an irresistible brew, so when this time o’ year rolls around I am at my happiest!
